Guns won’t solve our Issues

Cards on the table, I really dislike American gun culture. If it was up to me I would try to remove almost all guns from private possession. But I understand that is currently an nonviable tactic in the US.

But I think this is silly. ” Fear and unemployment contribute to increased crime, violence and unrest within our communities. Today, many individuals are seeking information, resources and training to obtain legal firearms for the purpose of protecting their property and families.” I can’t believe the response to Fear and unemployment is guns. What? We should be trying to create a society and landscape where guns should not be a concern. Arming people legally is just adding fuel to a fire. What is the end goal???

And I don’t think you can have a conversation about police violence without discussion America’s gun epidemic. Police will be less inclined to have itchy trigger fingers if less of the population was armed. Many countries police forces don’t even carry lethal weapons! That should be the goal, disarmament at all levels, not armament at all levels. I have swung back and forth multiple times on gun rights. But more and more I see it as a root of many issues prevalent in American society that is not an issue in other countries. And sure, criminals may still try to commit violent acts, but a stabbing never results in a seven year old across the street dying.
